I'm thinking of taking my boyfriend on a city break for his birthday, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good place? I was thinking Prague but someone told me it's like amsterdam now, I'm after somewhere cheap, with a bit of sightseeing and nice restaurants and bars, personally i quite like touristy areas where people speak english!
I've found some cheap flights to Warsaw, has anyone been there? Any suggestions appreciated!!

The best city in Europe in the Spring is Paris.

Great city for walking round with your boyfriend.

Not exactly cheap, although you can eat and drink cheaply in Paris if you dont go to the overpriced touristy places.

Probably plenty of cheap air fares there as well.

100% Prague! Great city! Im from CZ, so here is some info: Flyghts are cheap, starting on 25 and taking usually 2h e.g. from Manchester Prices are still fantastic, compare to UK. If you are prepare to ask people on the street or at reception desk in hotel, they wil always know, where to send you for cheap great local meal + best beer (about 0.80p) Not that great for vegetarian, as lots of dishes are meat base. Very romantic place, especialy after dark! Its not over crowded by turists, spring is good time to visit. Great social life, us it is still cheap to go out for meal and drink. Just avoid classic turist traps (McDonalds,KFC etc) option for good meal is always around the corner. Dont worry to not stay in the city centre, as subway or trams are very quick, easy and cheap way to travel, operating till midnight, trams even longer+ taxi are not too expensive, but choose company as CityTaxi, than guys on the street. Choose only B&B and go out for lunch or dinner. Its better value and great experience. Be very carefull about pocket pickers, there are very organised and always win. Many people, especially young speak good english, dont worry. Buy turist guide and you will be o.k. Hope, you will enjoy, whenever you go. Have a great time!
You could consider Krakow which is beautiful. Plenty to see and if you think it is your thing, you can do a day trip to Auschwitz. Plenty of restaurants and food is very reasonable in even the most expensive restaurants. Alternatively Bratislava, like Krakow but on a smaller scale. Did both these last May and would love to go back again. Also just saw a programme on TV which showed Wroclaw which looked lovely. Eastern Europe has so much to offer and is truly fascinating. SkyEurope are doing some great deals for flights from Luton valid from 26 March till 17June, well worth a look.

I have to go with Prauqe, its getting like Amsterdam but still very good and worth doing now otherwise Budapest would be my suggestion
I'm with Prague too. True, the centre is far brasher and touristy (and dearer!) than it was a few years back, but it's essentially kept its character. We always stay in a little B&B out in Strasnice (Prague 10), very near to Skalka on the Metro and two minutes walk from the tram into the centre (about 20 mins).
Krakow is really nice, cheap flights and food when you get there, a lot of poles speak english as they learn it in school. Can recommend the Royal Hotel at the base of the Wawel Hill, look on trip advisor. Don't miss the Krakow zoo, a taxi ride out of town
Not so many sights but still plenty to see is Gdansk, also plenty of cheap flights about and accommodation reasonable.
Prague is also nice,
my friend has just come back from Barcelona and she said that was really nice for a short break.
Barcelona fulfils all your requirements. Short flight too! Hotels reasonable, lots to see there.
Krakow in Poland is great for 3/4 days everything is cheap and lots to do . Prague is also very nice we stayed at the Arcadia resident hotel check it out on trip advisor
