I have this really weird thing going on with my skin, it feels like sunburn, a kind of stinging tenderness but no rash. It is affecting an area on my waist and buttock but only on one side. It has happened a few times before, only on one side and lasts for a few days. It is very sore to touch but there is nothing there!! A few people have said that it sounds like shingles but without the rash. I don't feel unwell and would rather not trouble the doc. Any ideas?

Whether you feel fine or not I would still trouble the doctor.
It sounds like shingles and if it gets hold is very painful. .It may not be that but I would get it checked out nevertheless .
Joflump. I had shingles on my shoulder and your symptoms sound pretty much the same. It could well be a heat rash or hives but I agree with shaneystar, its best to see your gp when you can. Meanwhile place cold tissue's or cloth's on the affecte area's. Dont worry about wasting your docs time, thats what he's there for:)

Thanks for the advice guys. I was a bit confused cos I didn't realize that you could get shingles more than once and I thought that it always came with a visible rash. I will get it checked out though :)
Agree with the others that it could be shingles. Often you don't actually get the rash but it nevertheless feels incredibly sore and tender. Have you been in contact with any children who have been germinating with Chickenpox? Do see you doctor as these symptom can come and go and can often flare up again when you're under stress or tired.
sounds like Shingles to me too. It isn,t Hives I get that and have big red itchy blotches all over.
joflump, this used to happen to me before i got my periods. when my periods came it disappeared. i did not seek medical advise. it stopped about 2 years ago.
but everyone is right, you should see a doctor.
Yeah i have the same problem, have had it for years and it appears (or i should say doesn't appear) every month or 2 and last about a week. sore to touch like a rash but nothing there to see. never thought of shingles cos i've had it so many time but think it's time to see doc. Good luck with yours.
