Christians - if Jesus ever returns, as he promised, will you recognise him, or will you consider him to be a deluded lunatic (with all due respect to our very own Luna-tic)? What would he need to say to convince you that he was genuine?

I wonder whether he may be here already ? As he didn't do much until after his baptism (aged 30-ish) I wonder how he is currently occupying his time ?
Perhaps, he's working in graphic design, or desktop publishing ?
I have no idea quite what we would accept, with our jaded 21st Century eyes and dulled sensibilities, as proof of his return ?
The Christians would demand proof of his claims, which rather flies in the face of the proof/faith argument.........
And if it was accepted that he is who he says, I wonder who would be the first to get him in the cross-hairs ?

No, there haven't been many relevant answers, Jack. Threads seem to have a habit of going off track lately, don't they? Thanks for trying to keep this one on the level though. I like your observation that Christians demanding proof of his claims would fly in the face of faith. Very astute.

I don't think Jesus was anything like the Christians believe, so if he comes at the end, as Pesk expects, I wonder if we'd assume he was instrumental in the destruction of the earth? The question of how one would physically recognise Jesus is interesting because of the number of people who claim to see the face of Jesus in clouds, drying plaster and the like. How do they know?
We know how pious artists portray him, but that means nothing; in real life Jesus (if he existed) might have been short and fat with a bald head and a spotty face. If a Christian saw an image like that in a cloud would he cry �Ooh, look! Jesus!�? If not, why not?
And those visions of Mary seen by hysterical teenage RC girls always look like the picture of her above their beds: tall and slim with a peaches-and-cream complexion, sometimes blonde hair and blue eyes (!) and graceful hands that never saw a day�s housework. In real life Mary (if she existed) might have been short, she would probably have had a swarthy complexion, dark or black hair and a Jewish nose. She might have been rather plump due to a diet of fatty lamb and olives. Again, if those girls saw an image like that in a field would they cry �Ooh, look! The Virgin Mary!�? If not, why not?

I dont think people would believe to be honest which is really sad, they'd say it was magic or he was off his rocker and needed a therepist! even worse they'd book him onto jeremy kyle!!!!!!
id like to believe that he would be accepted and greated with open arms but as humans we are very cynical.
as for looks, i think he'd be black with a jewish nose considering where he came from, if of course he looked like the locals, but nothing to suggest otherwise!
