I am in a really horrible situation - in the process of splitting up with my boyfriend but still having to live with him for another two weeks. He has (admitted and shown me) put a programme into my laptop that can take and save screen shots of my emails and MSN conversation! Where would it be installed and how can I get rid of it?? Can he access it from his office PC?

Any advice greatly appreciated, although not on the realtionship side please - I know it is a ridiculous situation to be in - but I need help, I cant sort out my future when he can monitor everything I do!

I think Chris (Buenchico) can answer this better than me, but I would have thought that what he has done is actually illegal. Perhaps you should contact the police.
The other thing of course, is to download and install soem decent anti-spyware, such as Spyware Blaster, and AdAware.

If I download it - will it get rid of it? Considering it has been installed on my computer in the first place??
He can remotely access your computer by VCN, which probably shows up as a little icon or the letters themselves. You can turn this off, but I'm no expert at all, and you'd be as well to ask Ethel in "Computers".
I also think that by spying on you without your permission, your bf's breaking the law. If you know for certain that this is the case, you should report him.
Start your messenger up and go to Tools>Options>Messages>Message history and untick "automatically keep a record of my conversations". Make sure you click Apply before OK and close the Messenger. Then go to your My Documents folder and delete the conversation folder.

Put a password on your Windows Operating system so he can't logon your programs. (open a new user account)

Unless he has remote access to your computer it is unlikely that he will be able to hack into your computer when you are online. Your firewall will alert you when this is attempted.

I believe your soon to be ex is trying to upset your just for the sake of upsetting you. Taking a screenshot of anything on your screen is simply done by pressing the PrtScrn key and pasting the clipboard content into a program that can receive a Bmp image like Paint. This is available on most computers and operating systems.

There are programmes that work as you have said emx, I think they often used by parents to check their childs computer.

Just go through the programmes installed on your computer, do what the others have said to.

Poor you, I would be fuming! and a bit freaked out to be honest
