Can anybody actually tell me what they do?

The Police undertake all criminal investigations, child porn investigations, school assaults (if serious) etc. The vast majority of forced entry in to premises etc is also led by the police.

Social services undertake all long time enquiries, collation of information, assesments etc and the NHS, for example pediatrics, will look after general welfare if ill.

Childline is also independant of the NSPCC.

Just wondering what they actually do before I respond to a mail shot I have received.

Thank you.

Good answer.
It's also a well recognised place for people to turn to. People will donate money to the but they dont keep it solely forthemselves. NCH, the salvation army and Barnados receive money from them too.
The NSPCC share donations received - mine included - with other charities?
To childrens' causes, eg NCH need to set up a counselling service for raped and sexually abused children. Their chief fund raiser approaches affiliated charities and asks them for cash. It would always be associated with children.

Salvation army even get money off help the aged for food runs etc to old folk.

Or did you expect all your money to go on a helpline and advertising?
Sarcasm wasn't required...
