Hang on Wix . . there are a few on here similarly inflicted who will no doubt tell you from personal experience.
Probably get more help in B & s -this place can get swamped.

I am a 'depressed mental idiot' but not because od S.A.D but I get where you are coming from.
Can you afford a little holiday -or I believe in some cases the NHS provide - like little sunbed type thing but they only shine on your face -this has been known to work.

I know that you probably feel like a depressed mental idiot but I for one know that what you are going through is genuine.

Good Luck -keep smiling xxx
You need some vitamin D. That might help a bit. I would also say book yourself a holiday if you can. The more sunlight the better.

I suffer from bouts of depression. I have good days and bad days. It also depends on whats going on in my life.
Wix, my sister has this. She has a contraption that she fits over her head and it shines the right kind of light directly into her eyes and it helps enormously. She got it through the GP.
Well who gave you the diagnosis, and is it worse than being just generally pi$$ed off with Winter ?

Go out and look at the blossoms, some are very early this year. There are lovely crocuses under the trees in Croydon Cemetery. The days are getting steadily lighter.

Are you close to countryside ? If so, get out there and enjoy it.

I have learned to enjoy Winter because each day of Winter is another day closer to Spring.

Thanks for the supoprts everybody, this will most likley be my last post on here tonight because i've got to go back to work.
Anyway, take care, Wix.
We have loads of snowdrops already and my daffies and tulips (from Amsterdam) are really coming through -so spring has nearly sprung -hold tight x

Although -hold tight -we must be in for snow shortly as it has snowed unexpectadley for the last 23yrs around about my sons birthday (today) -I only have noticed- for that reason -put your bets on now for an unexpected snowstorm in the next week.
Happy birthday to your son Dris xxx
A good start would be to stop calling yourself a depressed mental idiot.
Every time you say that or think it, you put yourself down a little more.
Even if you don't believe it, call yourself an intelligent, normal human being. You're clever enough to ask how to help yourself, aren't you / So you cannot be an idiot or 'mental'. If you do that, even if you don't believe it you won't be making yourself feel any worse.
If you've got SAD, what is your Gp/specialist advising ? There's lots of different medications available , but if you want to avoid that, ask them about light treatments. You can get special lamps which give you the extra light that is very helpful to some SAD sufferers.
Try to keep active , even if you don't feel like it. Keep a routine to your day. Keep a diary listing your achievements and re-read it. Generally look after yourself, eat healthily and exercise gently if you can.
Hope this helps.
