When someone in the house dies, how can you stop junk mail from still coming addressed to that person

You can contact the mailing preference service, takes about 3 months to take effect though. Sometimes you have a reference on the junk mail which is known as a purn number if you continue to receive and give the MPS a copy of the letter or advise them of the purn number they'll contact the company and it's quicker to get it stopped with the purn.
They only stop the address you register with - exactly how you register so if you have a variation point that out, e.g. say if you live at 'The view, 23 Oxford Street' and you get mail addressed to that and also just to '23 Oxford Street' you'll need to advise otherwise it'll only work for one.

If you register the name and address with them, it should stop the mail.
When I registered a death, the Registrar gave me a card to fill in with the deceased's details which also seemed to stop the mail. You could check with your Registrar of Deaths to find out if this still happens.
Alternatively, if you write 'deceased' on the letters and put them back in the post, this might stop them.
