I'm sure with my old cellnet phone, dropping the first 0 off an 0800 number would still connect you for free.  I havent managed to find a way with Vodafone - I was recently charged a lot to a supposedly free 0800 number to AA emergency rescue.  Anyone know if its possible to get these free calls on vodafone?

I've always been on Vodafone and when you call a freephone number, the network informs you that you will be charged as at the standard rate. As far as I remember, this has always been the case. The company you are calling pays for the call of course, and presumably most of them are not willing to pay the higher charges from mobiles.
