PS3 and Internet access

My friend has connected his PS3 to the internet and accesses the default Sony Playstation website with no problems.
He does not have a mouse and is unable, using his controllers, to move his cursor up to the address line to type in different website addresses.

Any ideas?

Apparently you use the Start button on the controller to open up a keyboard view!
