After months of hearing noises above us in floor boards, scruffling noises in or kitchen cupboards, a hamster has just come into our front room from the kitchen area!!!!

We have managed to catch it & its now in a sealed cardboard box with some Pringles inside for food!

Not sure what to do with it now & worried that it might chew its way out of the box!!!

On top of all this we had called Pest Control from the Council last week for some advice & he put some poison down & that all went!!!! How can the hamster be still alive after eating all that!!!???

Any Advice PLEASE, THANKS

Are you SURE it IS a hamster???.....would one of those little critters actually survive for several months??...if so,it must be a record!........maybe it was munching its way thru your dry-store cupboard stuff. lol
Well I wish I'd have read this earlier, I've just bought a hamster and the little tinker cost me 6.50, I could have had yours for nowt!
An hour in the freezer should do the trick .
Then cook from frozen .

Well gues what the hamster has chewed its way out of that box, so we're back to square one!

Boo - I wish we could given the hamster to you but its gone now & we are stuck again!

We called Pest Control again & the guy said he was quite suprised its lasted this long but to put more poison!

So we just have to wait & see, lets hope he comes out ogain an not die in between out floorboards!
Aww bless it.

I'd suggest leaving some strong smelling tempting hamster friendly food out in a pile (or piles) near where it came out from and some water as it's probably dehydrated (not a tippable thing though unless you want a wet floor).

Put a little box (like an empty washing tablets box) on it's side with some fluff in, newpaper strips or preferably softer, inside to make a tempting cosy little nest.

Hopefully it will attract hammy and you can get him that way. He is likely to leg it if he hears you come too near so worth taking a light box you can put over the bed, be quick though as they're like houdini!

There are places which will take rescued hamsters, just ring your local animal rescue and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

you cant kill it! please dont poison him
Have you checked with your neighbours to see if anyone has lost it! I can't understand why you are putting down poison for a hamster!!!! Not as if it's got anything to mate with so you're hardly going to be over run by them. Try a humane trap.

We once found a hamster in our garden, we kept him until he died a year or so later.

Please don't poison him and I would say that if he has come out once he will come out again and when he does is there not any chance you could keep him as a pet? or at least see if any neighbours have lost a pet or want a new one?

Jenna's idea of ringing an animal sanctuary is a good one.
Don't hurt the poor little thing.
