Mobile phone query?

Can anyone give an explanantion for why when my mother rings my son on his mobile from her landline his mobile doesn't ring out, the call comes through but without sound, this doesn't happen when anyone else calls him and it doesn't happen when my mother calls anyone else either on theri mobile or on their landline.

You can set different profiles for different people ringing on most phones. Does he have her on silent mode by any chance?
