Another waste of money, with the news that the BBC. is to spend 11 million on a new Gaelic TV channel, despite the fact that only 58,000 Scots speak the language.
Is it not time to stop pandering to Scots & Welsh minorities & keep everything in English, the International language?

Just for you amsterdammer.
It's an official language in Scotland so why should there not be programms in Gaelic. The language was spoken by the majority until the English speakers became more popular.

There are many on here who complain about government pandering to the needs of foreigners and yet you think it ok for Scots to be forced to speak a foreign tongue, English?

Gaelic is a language to be encouraged, not allowed to die
Scottish gaelic is dead, move on Yawn!!!
It will be a good day when you are independant and you take all your scottish buddies who have ruined the country like Mr Blair and Mr Brown back up there,
We have had to put up with the News readers talking scottish and welsh for years , we don't like to hear it , and its not wanted in England.
Proud to be English and I gladly await the day when I can choose this over being British , thats something we must all agree with whether you be scots , Welsh, Irish or English ....
Tufty7....The feeling is mutual. We are just as sick of your newsreaders and presenters as you are of ours. We are sick of your useless corrupt politicians at Westminster still being allowed to make decisions that affect Scotland. We are sick of hearing about your sh1t cricket team every five minutes and how you won the world cup in '66 (yawn) We are sick of hearing about YOUR gales, rain and snow when we get worse but just grin and bare it. We are sick of you referring to yourself as British when causing trouble but English when you've been good. We're sick of your foul mouthed citizens when you go on holiday abroad. Couple of pints and they're singing Sweet Chariots or chanting En-ga-land. Shall I go on?????

I love all the different languages in Britian and all the different accents. It makes things so much more interesting. Different regions have different words for things and different expressions. I think it would be miserable if we all spoke the same, it would be so bland. So I'm glad if TV might encourage people to learn a traditional British language.
Raggy Roman, what about the word "Drawing" pronounced all the time as "DrawRing? Where do they get the extra R from?
The last time I checked The Netherlands was not part of BRITAIN so therefore is not covered by the BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION....

The last time I checked Asia was not part of Britain, so why does the BRITISH BROARDCASTING CORPORATION have a BBC Asian Network.

If the obvious answer to this is because of the Asian community that reside in the UK.

Then why do they not have networks to cover all the other various nationalities that reside in the UK?

Anotheoldgit..........A valid point.......not a decision i made or agree with unfortunately. Like the Government the BBC must please those non British minorities and throw everything at them.
"WoWo......Are you thick??? It's not about channels. It's about languages. "

Hmmm... I think you will find the whole point is that it is about a new dedicated channel. A channel which would be made directly for the benefit of minority.
AOG,

According to the 2001 UK Census there are 2.33 million British Asians, making up 4% of the population of the United Kingdom.

In any broadcasters language, that is a very sizable market if you can capture it. Would you sooner they listened to stations broadcast from Karachi and Islamabad?
the bbc can blow me all they show is fu c k i n g repeats of last of the summer f u c k i n g wine and gthe vicar of f u c k i n g dibley!!!!!
