Mouse problem

All you people who are good with IT will no doubt think I'm stupid, but my mouse has gone a bit bananas! I can't control it p0roperly and it's all jerky. What's wrong please? It's a remote mouse (Ithink that's what it's called) ie it's not attached by a cable, but has a red light in it. Thanks in advance.

Time for some new batteries me thinks.

Thanks both. I'm going to change his batteries first as I don't know where his balls are located!!!
