how do i get off the salt from the snow on my boots? they are really white on the toes. im just using a wet cloth at the moment. im scared to use a shoe polish just yet as i am afraid that i may engrain the salt into my shoes and then seal it with the polish. is there a special chemical i could use or what would be the opposite of salt which is sodium so that i could maybe use that as an antidote?

I've used water+vinegar on my waterproof suede walking boots. Also, if you have wet boots it's best not to dry them beside a fire/radiator etc.
