Hi, please could anybody advise me on purchasing abroard on D.L.A? I know property is cheaper but I would also like my mum to move somewhere where she'l live longer!...shes had it rough and I just want to get away with her
You need to live in the UK to receive DLA - you can't get it if you live abroad permanently:
The residence and presence test
You must:
be ordinarily resident in the Uk
If you are terminally ill you do not have to satisfy the presence test though you must still be ordinarily resident in UK.
If you go abroad but intend to return you can continue to be paid disability living allowance for the first 26 weeks of your temporary absence.
This time limit can be extended if you are being treated for an illness or disability that began before you left Great Britain and the Secretary of State agrees that it is consistent with the proper administration of the benefits system to pay you for a longer period.
If you intend to live abroad permanently your disability living allowance will stop as soon as you go abroad
seeing as the top rate f dla would still only give you an income of less than 5 grand a year, its very unlikely you would get a mortgage for the amount you would need. Even if they allowed you 5x the amount - what could you get for 25000 pounds? also, isnt dla renewable every 3 years at the least? therefore you cant garuntee any income in the future
you could of course always save up your dla for a few years till you had enough to buy somwhere.
also if you/your mum are unwell and living abroad, how do you expect to pay for prescriptions and healthcare/? if you dont reside permanently in this country you are not entitled to most primary care and a lot of secondary care unless its immediate and necassary treatment
This is a great example of everything that is wrong with the UK.
When you read that somebody lives on benefits and that it is apparently enough to allow you to contemplate emigrating and buying a house, you know the country has gone mad !
A friend of mine bought a property in Dubai and said the people were really helpful with this huge knowledge base of questions and answers. Might want to check them out
