I recently went to my midwife who is refering me for an additional scan as my baby appears to be small for my dates. I am not too concerned as I am a small person myself 5'4" and a pre pregnancy weight of 7st 7lbs,, however the midwife also said I had low blood pressure. All the information I read on the above issues are the opposite ie gaining too much weight and having high blood pressure. Does anyone think I should be overly concerned about either or been in this position?

I don't think you should be concerned - if the midwife thought anything serious was happening, she could have had you admitted while the tests were done. i am sure her action in precautionary, and you shouldn't worry, but do confide your concern to your midwife, for some additional reassurance.
yeah, I wouldn't worry too much. At least things are getting checked out. I do know that quite often babies which are small for date catch up later on (especially the last few weeks) and as you're only 27 weeks, there's plenty of time left. try not to worry (easy said, I know) and look on the bright side...you'll get to see your baby on the screen again, how nice will that be? I agree with Andy...speak to your midwife about your concerns, they are there to help you, and baby. Good luck.
Even if there is a chance there's something wrong it's better not to stress out over it because you're being looked after medically and the stress isn't good for the baby. What some healthcare people forget is that it's only in say the last 20 years that women have been encouraged to put on loads of weight and have huge babies - before that it was accepted as fact that the smaller both the mother and baby were the easier the delivery would be! Hope it all works out for the best.
I am only 5'2" and I only put on 17lb in my pregancy. I was sent for an extra scan at 37 weeks, but she was fine and healthy at 6lb 2oz. She is now 16wks and still only 13lb, but this means that I get lots of use out of her clothes! (still in 0-3mths, and will be for another month or so!) After the birth I was lighter than when I started and back in my going out jeans in a week. You will be fine, just relax and enjoy the pregancy. Good luck!
I can understand why you are concerned plm as I was in your situation with my first born child. I too am 5"4 and of slight build and measured small for my dates throughout my pregnancy. I blamed myself for having morning sickness for the full nine months - fearing that my baby wasn't getting the proper nutrients - which is nonsense of course because your body has stores of most essential nutrients to draw from anyway. I had at least eight scans and was sent regularly to the labour ward to be wired up to the foetal heart monitor to record my baby's movements and check the heartbeat. These additional checks are purely routine to check that your baby is thriving and that all is well. I was told to expect a very small baby but my daughter weighed in at a very healthy 7 lb 15oz. My second daughter weighed 9lb 4oz and now that I am pregnant again I can only hope that it won't be an even bigger baby ! On each occasion I had a very petite bump and indeed used to walk about sticking my belly out so that people would know that I was pregnant and not just getting fat ! My children are above average for height - my eldest daughter will be seven next month yet wears clothes from the 9-10 age range , so don't worry as this will only mar this wonderful experience for you. All the best and keep us posted about what you have x
i really wouldn't worry. My daughter was taken in early as her baby wasn't growing. She was born 4lb 11oz. 4 months later she is well over 10lb and doing very well.

Hi, I'm so glad that I've read your post, because I am also in a similar position. I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and 3 sonographers have told me that my baby is below average in terms of size and weight. However, I am of Asian origin, and therefore am only small myself, I'm 4ft 11, plus I was only a size 6, pre-pregnancy. Even though, I am slightly concerned, everyone around me keeps reassuring me that as long as the baby's growth is consistent, (which it is) that's all that matters.

Have you had your baby yet?

I only put on16 1/2 lbs with my son whos now 2.  I was continually told to expect a small baby who would possibly be premature.  He was born on his due date weighing 7lb 10oz and was absolutely fine.  I am now 27 weeks pregnant and have only put on 6lbs.  I am not worrying this time as i know everything will be fine.  Good luck with your baby.
