Why is it when humans run we have to pump our arms? It seems also there is a corrolation with the speed our arms move to the speed our legs move.

Newton's Third Law of Motion-- To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Left leg forward. right arm back and vice versa.
If you didn't pump your arms, you would fall over
and this is what happens if you dont move your arms fast enough.

Thanks for that guys. But my work colleague just demonstrated in the office that you can run without falling over. (Yes the boss is out of the office today!) I must admit he did look stupid (my colleague not my boss).
