Hi All
I recently downloaded Windows Messenger Live so my wife can keep in contact with family, I already had Windows Messenger installed but went for the updated program.
My trouble is that Windows Messenger keeps signing me in as soon as I am connected to the internet despite ticking the options in the menu to only start up when I request. I have even gone as far as blocking the program is Zonealarm but it still connects!!
To connect to Windows Messenger live I first have to log out of Windows messenger as it had connect me as soon as I connect to the Internet.
I can not delete the old version of windows messenger in add/remove either as the only program showing in the new one I downloaded.
Any ideas please???

Assuming you have XP, I can only think that messenger is in your startup folder, so as soon as you switch the pc on it automatically starts.

Start - run

Type misconfig in the box and click the start up tab.

Untick windows messenger

You should be able to remove the old one as follows:

Open Add/Remove Programs
On the task bar on the left click "Add or Remove Windows Components"
Scroll down until you see Windows Messenger, and uncheck the box
Click Next, and continue to follow the instructions
