I have recently started using Windows Live Messenger to chat with my brother in Australia. We switched from Yahoo Messenger as there was an unacceptable time lag on speech.

Windows Live Messenger is much better but can anyone tell me why, despite asking Live Messenger to remember me and sign in automatically when I open the programme, it doesn't? I have to sign in every time. The same thing happens to my brother.

Thanks for the tip, OBL.

I don't see anything in the browser settings that should cause the problem. User IDs and passwords are saved in other websites I visit regularly such as AB. Digital Spy etc.
Quite what your browser settings or cookies are meant to have to do with an entirely separate piece of software (messenger) I don't know!

to check ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager and look for it in processes if not there you probably need to go to windows live and re-download and reinstall it

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think Chucky's link has done the trick.
