Does anybody know if Tom Hank's beard is real in Castaway?

I have read that the movie was shot in two parts in order for Hanks to lose some weight and grow his hair but there is no mention of the beard.

am just watching it now and i remember him being interviewed whilst filming it an d he had a beard then but obviously not to that extent.....plane crash was scary......!

I think the most unsettling aspect was being situated next to a 30 tonne whale!!!

Wardy, I believe his beard is real in Castaway. I remember seeing him on Opera talking about it.

The film was made in 2 parts - in the middle he made The Green Mile and returned to Castaway when he'd lost the weight.

After seeing clips of Charlie Wilson's War, I think he could do with losing the weight again!
