Not certain, bu2d might be PULLOVER - a pullover is an item of clobber; a pull is a shot in cricket and a pull over the boundary would be a knock for six....

Will consider the others...
30a DISCOVER = to turn up; record = disc; and on high = over

Hi BigMac

If pullover is right,, then I must be wrong with 1a Fish is rank, say (6)

I thought that was "scales" or "scaled"

Any more thoughts?
What letters do you have for 1a and 1d?
1a is PLAICE
2d is astonish
Question Author
I don't have any letters for 1a or 1d. If Catron's "plaice" is correct, then 1d starts with p and 2d starts with a

Am not sure why 1a is plaice? Am obviously thick today.
Yes, Catron, I can see ASTONISH now... an anagram of "shot as in".

It would help if I could see the actual crossword, of course, but have not bought the Torygraph today.
Question Author
Thanks Catron. Can you explain why please for both!
Plaice is a type of fish and sounds like place - one's position or rank.

Hence clue, Fish is rank, say - where say means sounds like.
Rank = place, which sounds like plaice.

1d is Pro (for) T (tory leader) RUDE (rough)

I'll leave you in the capable hands of BigMac.
