Can you lay carpet over laminate flooring, or do you have to remove the laminate first?
Thank you.

I know you can lay carpet over laminate but I've never done it myself so can't tell you the pros and cons of it

Many thanks for your answer Chazza. Will look into it some more.
As you say you can lay carpet over laminate but there are some things to consider. Now I am assuming that you are not talking about the kitchen or bathrooms because carpet would be a no-go in these areas(in my opinion). Therefore I will assume it is for other rooms and it is the noise generated by the laminate that is the problem.
The down side to laying carpet on top of the laminate is the height that it may take up under the doors. You may need to take your doors off in order to shave the bottoms so that the carpet allows the doors to move freely.
Have you considered using large rugs in lieu of carpeting. This would be a lot simpler, less physical work and certainly much much cheaper.
I should also add that if you are a party person then spillages on to a rug(although you could move them out of the way first)are not as devastating as onto an expensive carpet.
General floor cleaning would also be simpler.
Just a thought. Happy New Year.

Hi Parkesquay, thank you for your answers to both of my questions. The laminate flooring is actually in my lounge. As you say it is quite easy to keep clean, but somehow doesn't have that 'warm' feeling that carpet has. Being used to carpeting all my life I think that I probably need to give it a bit more time to get used to. We do have a large rug down and this certainly helps. As to being a party person, well sometimes - large family gatherings more nowadays.
Thanks again for your help and a Happy New Year to you and yours.
