- How long was the 100 years war (Ans : 116 yrs)
- After what animal are the Canary Islands named? (Ans : dogs)
- From what animals do we get cat gut? (Ans : horses and sheep)
-What was King George VI's first name? (Ans : Albert)

etc.

Any ideas, please?

On a similar line to the last of your examples:-
What was Queen Victoria's first name? Alexandrina.
What is the current Prime Minister's first name? James.
One which always foxes people:-
Who was the last of Henry VIII's wives to die? Anne of Cleves. ( 99.9% will give Catherine Parr as she his last wife. )
If you get the QI book by Stephen Fry (and hordes of researchers) it's full of questions like how many wives Henry VIII had. The answer is two, apparently, and Anne of Cleves wasn't one of them (the marriage was annulled, so it never legally happened).

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The II in the title relates to the fact that it is the second liner of that name, not the second Queen Elizabeth!

Hi Dusty Bin, I've just come across another question which may be of interest:
Why is the Golden Gate bridge painted plum colour?
