I got my credit card bill today saying I paid late, and charged me 25. I posted it at the beginning of December 1st class and when I checked my on line banking it was only taken today. Do I have a say in this or do I have to go with the fact that Royal Mail are going down hill and not delivering on time?? I posted my sister a bar of chocolate that she can't get in her area (about 15 miles away) over 8 weeks ago that she still has not received yet!!!!

Did your bill have some small print on it like 'payment must be received by' or similar. Boring and not legally binding. It should not be down to you to send it on time but down to them to receive it on time. You may be able to mulct them for serious damages, go for it and add a new dimension to stupidity.

it needs to be received by the 18th of December. Considering I sent it on the 1st it had plenty of time 1st class to get there. I know the phone lines are in bloody India but I dont think the mail goes via there as well!!!
The CC co will not accept you saying it was posted on a certain date to avoid a late paymet fee
Set up a payment online and never be late again
As for the chocolate? Give it up as a lost cause
I thought all CC compnies had been forced to reduce their late fees to 12 maximum.

(oh and thanks for the chocolate)
Best thing to do is ring them tell them you are very unhappy about this after explaining the predicament , ask them to quash it as a "goodwill" gesture and they will I am sure ,
Moving on a bit, you could threaten them that you will transfer your valued debt to a different bank ? This happened to me, I got cross with them over the phone (via buttons 3-6-5) and they said sorry (button 1) and sent me a Lotus Elise. Try it, you may be surprised.

I set up a standing order for 30 per month for my CC - I always have to pay at least that much - to go in about 3/4 days before payment day. That way I don't have to worry about them getting something even if it's miles out with what I finish up paying.
