I had the misfortune of watching a few minutes over the last few days. What a depressing load of sh1te. I am told millions watch regularly. What does it say about us that we find this abhorrent show entertainment? Why is it not on after the watershed? some of the content should not be viewed by children. I haven't seen the other soaps for years but I imagine they have probably gone the same way. Why does society "need" this sh1te on the TV?

Ones ***** is another persons ruby :-)
Unfortunately, many people have no lives of their own and feel the need to watch these kinds of programme. This would explain why trivial pap such as Big Brother are so popular.

Other people enjoy watching the misery and misfortunes of others in order to make them feel their lives are much better.
its not always misery.
Could say the same for Doctor who etc...,. At least it is kinda real and could happen
From the few times I've seen Eastenders, I would say it was nearly always misery and misfortune.
I saw the 2 episodes on Christmas Day and thought they were dramatic and very well acted
lol

I suppose it's the same reason why people enjoy watching children falling off swings and so on on You've Been Framed. A lot of people revel in other people's bad luck.

I remember once watching You've Been Framed and it showed a kid of about 4-5 fall off a bike and the audience were p1ssing themselves! The dad didn't bother to help, he just kept on filming.

Seems a bit strange to me.
I wouldnt say its revelling in people bad luck, its more like a bit of gossip that keeps you hooked
But surely, to get some form of entertainment from gossip about random people (fictional or not) who you do not know, is a bit strange?
to some yes to others not, otherwise there wouldnt be such a thing. I know I;d definateky watch something real than not
True. I guess people must like to watch that sort of thing. I too would much rather watch something factual than this nonsense.
Supply 'n' demand innit - if nobody watched it it wouldnt be there for very long - I used to love Eldorado
Why do grown men watch 22 grown men chase after a ball for an hour & a half ??? Or some idiot drive round a track at a rediculous speed?? It`s called FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
f*ck up bjb you a$$hole!!! I bet you sit in front of the tv with your gay boyfriend everynight watchin eastenders!!!!
i don't watch eastenders. just call me lucky.
I watch it and think how lucky I am that I'm neither as stupid nor as ignorant as those characters in it. They refuse to confide in one another, they refuse to seek professional help when they're in trouble or go to the police when a crime's been committed. They are gullible beyond belief (how many times do they lie to one another and are totally believed?), seemingly have no life outside their immediate neighbourhood and often appear incapable of being even remotely civil to one another - especially at Christmas.

The only fight we had over Christmas dinner was about who got to pull whose cracker.
But its nothing new. We have had Oliver Twist and The Old Curiosity Shop screened over Christmas, and they are both full of misery, deceipt and crime. The only difference is that they were written stories and Eastenders etc are on the TV. Soaps are just the modern day novels.
LIAM. Do you have fun being such an offensive person??? For your information I`m neither MALE or GAY.
