.................I've just been reading Reception's story on selling her soul to the devil - made me think - a lot of ABers refer to their "Ex"s in posts - maybe more than the average. How many of you are still on your "first" marriage.......as it were?

I am, 27 years.
We have learned to give and take and respect each other.

Don't get me wrong we have had our bad times, arguing all the time, when our boys were little, money was tight. We learned to pull together.

We have seen too many of our friends, who after one silly argument with their partners, go off and get divorced!!
I wish I could say I divorced in haste...it was more a case of marrying in haste!

As they say, marry in haste..repent at leisure ;o)

I so wish Mr Pippa was my first husband. We have been together longer than I was with my first husband so that must count for something, eh?

Good question Lego - there still seems to be this old fashion notion that you marry for life - then suffer a little social guilt 'cos it didn't work out. It must be the only thing in life that we are expected to get right first time......:o)
I married in "haste" 35 years ago next week ..we had known each other for six weeks ..Best days work I ever did ! We've had our ups and downs like any one does but we are still together.
The ones who say we've been together for donkeys years and have never had a cross word are liars !! .
Two of my brothers have been married for over fifty years and there has been many a cross word I can assure you ! But they are still jogging along ......Bless !
Yep still on my first marriage 20 years +

I do spend time thinking that monogamy is basically social engineering & not necessarily right for the average human though.
I've never married and consider it a good thing... knowing me I'd be on my fifth divorce by now!
never been married, never met any one that i would like to spend "till death do us part" with, but i have been with my present gf for 15 years so far :)
That's an interesting one, leg.

I have often pointed out to Mr P that we may well have 'failed' in our marriage if it had been the first. I would like to think not, however I cannot deny that one of the reasons we are still together is because we have learned so much about how hard it can be to maintain a relationship...we don't take each other for granted, and appreciate each other so much as we feel we got to have another bite of the cherry, as it were...

Apparently 2nd marriages are doomed to fail more than 1st marriages? I guess this can be the case if you didn't learn from the first one..or you jumped in too quick with number two!
