I am 18 years old, 5'3, and weigh about 155 pounds. I have been trying to loss weight for a very long time since about grade seven. I am overweight and i need to lose around 35 pounds. Diabeties runs in my family so it is very important that I get down to my proper weight...now. I have tried some diets and also tried starving myself but even after 5 days i saw no results. I am the kind of person who won't stick with something unless i see some kind of result fast, just to know it is working. After a week or two I would want to see results nothing incredibly unrealistic but a change that would motivate me to keep going. Also I am in university and I cannot afford to be on a special diet plan or buy specific groceries. I need help, if someone could give me a specific way and book or site or diet or anything that would ACTUALLY WORK I would really appreciate it.

boy oh boy when will people learn? the best way, atleast in my opinion to lose weight is exactly what your dr would most likley say. a healthy, BALANCED diet. starving yourself is stupid - put simply, when you starve yourself, as soon as you eat something eventually, your body screams "OH MY GOD FOOD!? MUST STORE AS MUCH FAT AS POSSIBLE BEFORE MY BRAIN STOPS ME EATING AGAIN!" the best way to lose the weight, is to eat healthy, and make sure you have breakfast, dinner and tea, but obviously decent healthy stuff.

let me apologise! im well skinny (too skinny my doc says), so I have no idea what your situation is like, so its easy for me to judge. but one thing i do know is this. you wont see wonderful gleeming results in a few weeks. its going to take patience and dedication - like it or not. Problem is, we live in the modern world. everyone wants things to happen NOW! QUICK! INSTANT! losing weight isnt going to happen like this. simple as. The sooner you accept this, the more chance youll have of losing the weight. of course you have to be dedicated and motivated.

as for "specific food" come of it mate! just eat healthy, you dont need a book to tell you how. even if you cant figure that out, just eat less atleast. and dont do what some people do, eat healthy, but sheds loads of healthy food, that wont work!

anyway, i dont why im writting this, the only person that can help you, is, well...you! so help yourself!
i was always on the larger side from being around 13 about size 16-18 i eat too much of the bad stuff and didnt get enough exercise, i always wanted to be lighter bbut on the other hand didnt want to be pressured to be the ideal perfect 10 if you dont like me how i am then you dont matter attitude. But then when i was 22 i got type 1 diabetes and dropped to a size 8 in 2 months not good i was weak and tired and no energy for a long while, it took me a long time to change my whole way of eating but the best way i have found is to eat the things i like in much smaller portions and snack on healthy thing all through the day, stay away from chocolate,and full sugar drinks and also use the G I diet as a guide. Im now a healthy size 12 so little and often is the rule. Good Luck
If you want to keep the weight off you also need to do exercise. I struggle with my weight and don't think you can successfully keep weight off just by controlling your food intake. I expect your university has some sort of gym that you can use so maybe you should see if there are any classes or an induction programme.

i'm the opposite of you, i'm a keen bodybuilder and spend my while life stuffing as much high protein food down my neck that i can in pursuit of a few extra pounds and inches.

you can learn from me though as i can gain weight during the winter and lose it in the summer at will, just have to adjust my calories.

your a student and therefore presumably intelligent so i think you should try the scientific approach. start my working out how many calories your eating a day and how many your burning. you can find out the calorific content of food and how many calories are burnt by different activities on the internet.
to lose weight you simply need to consume less calories than you burn up, its that simple. and you adjust those ratios by increasing your exercise and decreasing your calorie intake.
weight loss isn't quick though. you should plan yourself a healthy well balanced diet, with regular small meals and aim to lose a lb a week, think about it, in a years time you will be 52 lbs lighter!
as for exercise, most unis have really good gym and sports facilities so you've no excuse!
