How do I stop or slow down my dog from maulting excessively? It maults all year round, is not exposed to central heating etc. He is a 1 year old short haired Jack Russell terrier cross.

the only thing i can suggest is to brush him regulary as we have 3 dogs with the same problem and i find keeping them well brushed reduces the problem

I agree. There are products on the market that claim to reduce the amount of hair a dog sheds. My brother-in-law tried one on his akita. It worked, but then the akita's coat became very thin. The product seemed to slow both shedding and hair growth. I would not use anything like it on my dogs.

I don't mind brushing my dogs - it gives me time with them. And we just have to deal with vacuuming the carpets every day or two.

My dog Midge (jack russell cross) is terrible, he is constantly dropping hair. Brush really doesn't do a lot, after an hour I still find hair falling off him. If I had the time I would be vacuuming twice a day. Since we moved to a quieter area things have been a little better but a solution would be great.

Vitamin supplements seem to help, as well as Bach Rescue Remedy. A vet once suggested Evening Primrose oil but I have to say I have never tried it, maybe it is time to give it a go.
