Does anyone know what is the best device to stop birds flying into windows. Both downstairs and up it happens, both small birds and I have had an owl before. I have hung things up inside but this has not deterred them. Any ideas thanks.

I think it's due to the reflection, I always put decals of some kind on my window, they may not be able to see inside depending on the time of day. Some of my windows have a screen that is dark when you look from outside but you can see thru it when in.
Net or voile curtains
Hi lulu,
If you have tried everything, including those stickers that the RSPB have for sale, then it makes me wonder if the birds are literely flying for their lives to escape a possible predetor ie a sparrow hawk or a kestrel that may be prowling the area looking for some easy pickings.
I noticed this happening in my own garden a few years ago and managed to solve the problem by planting some dence evergreen shrubery like holly which provided a safer envirronment for the small birds to hide while eating seeds etc or lining up for their turn at the bird table.
Hope this is helpful. Tbird+
I found putting some stickers, RSPB or any other kind onto the window very helpful. It shows the birds that there is something solid there and it is not just an opening to fly through to escape being chased.
It occasionally happens to us because we have a bird table with a roof on our patio and the two most open sides face the house and into the garden. because this gives us the best view of them. However, occasionally when the birds are startled they fly off hurriedly out of one of the openings point into our patio window. (Normally it's only the daft collared doves which do this). You can get cut-outs to stick on the windows but they are rather disfiguring and net curtains may help, but again they do block your views. If you feed your birds, can you move the feeders further away from the house to reduce the risk. Also, sometimes birds fly at the corners of the windows to catch spiders in the their webs and this may be the cause of a few accidents.
Try putting bird netting up on the outside of your windows. I had the same problem, I had tried hanging plants, putting decals on my windows. I still found at least 1 dead song bird per day for about 2 weeks. I put the bird netting up or garden netting as it is sometimes called. It was the least expansive solution I could find and also the least invansive. I haven't found 1 dead bird since I put it up. 100% success.
