I've recently taken to doing doodles of hour glasses, mostly broken with sand pouring out. however in a more detailed/proper sketch I have been unable to capture the sand effectively.
Anyone got any tips on how to 'draw' sand, to capture the texture and flow of it?
thanks

The fact you are drawing an egg-timer should in itself make the viewer realise that the flowing element is sand. As for capturing the flow etc, it is difficult perhaps if you look at this page of Ahmed Husseins art, some of the drawings there might give you some ideas for technique.
