when you take out a new car insurance policy is it now law that you send a copy of your driving licence, i have never had to do this when i have insured my car, but a friend of mine who has recently taken out a new policy says she has to send them a copy of her licence.

No it is not law to send in a copy of your driving licence, and I have never come across a company which requests one for any reason.
some companies do ask to see a copy,it seems that some people are on their at risk list and they like to make sure they have a valid licence.
It's not law, it may well be part of an insurers administrative procedure to request a copy.
its not law but some firms do ask for it. Adrian flux are one such company.
Just to start a debate as far a I am aware you can own and insure a care without having a driving licence. You must however not drive it youself and have a named driver/s or an any driver policy.
That is true - but you are not insuring yourself as a driver in those circumstances.
