will my pc modem ran faster with an external router,I up graded my modem speed and paying for it,but I am only getting 5.7 before uograde it was 2.5 Help

Modem, Router, two different things to do the same job. I can't quite make out if you are on dial up or broadband, but unless you are on cable, your broadband speed will be dictated by how far away the exchange is from you, and there is nothing you can do.
