Has anybody actually bought a carpet in Egypt? If so, was it a good deal and did you get it shipped home easily. Have seen beautiful carpets there, but am a bit worried about how a transaction would work out.

Be careful, as the carpet that gets sent is not always the quality you were shown, unless its pretty big size bring it with you, preferably hidden away in your suitcase. That way you get what you pay for, but then even in wrapping they can swap them over. This happens to pals of mine shopping in Hong Kong for a buddah type ornament, when they got it back to the hotel and unwrapped it was a shoddy version, shop refused to exchange and they had to call the police to get their money back, but what if they had left it until they got home ?
