The cereal contains maltose, which is also known as "grape sugar," and it had a vague, nutty flavor.    Also, because the name is actually hyphenated ("Grape-Nuts", check the box), it avoids any trouble with the FDA in case they charged that the product name was misleading, since it contained neither grapes nor nuts.
