Hi Fr Bill - I can't believe what I've just read in your second link!

I do hope a pattern doesn't arise in other Churches from that ridiculous idea!
Such a good site and some lovely posts on here. I have relatives whom I never knew buried abroad and I am proud to wear my poppy.
jake - that poem of Owen's is one of my all time favourites
This too is excellent

We came upon him sitting in the sun,
Blinded by war, and left. And past the fence
There came young soldiers from the Hand and Flower
Asking advice of his experience

And he said this and that and told them tales
And all the nightmares of each empty head
Blew into air; then hearing us beside,
"Poor chaps, how'd they know what it's like? he said.

And we stood there and watched him as he sat
Turning his sockets where they went away,
Until it came to one of us to ask "And you're - how old?"
"Nineteen, the third of May"

The Veteran, Margaret Postgate Cole
Very moving Doc & bensmum. To think of what some people have endured - for us.
Hey Smudge! Yes, it came as quite a shock to many of us up and down the coast. It seems this 'movement' started near Manchester. Thankfully, I know of no one here along the coastal areas who are so misguided.

Tomorrow will be a powerfully moving experience, just as it has always been. And it serves as a living image for our children to recongise what others have given for their freedoms.

My son has said to me many times that he feels particularly proud when he helps me with a funeral for a veteran because he knows what they gave for him.

And let us not forget all of our fine soldiers who are serving today.

Fr Bill,

That second link is incredible, if its ok with you, i'd like to keep it, and make use of it.
I won't if you say no, but you give a very powerful message.

Doc,
Brought a lump to my throat, geraint nhas posted another song, above this post.

bensmum,
Thats a very moving poem,
Thanks for allowing us to read it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always think. if it wasn't for the sacrifices of the warriers of the first and second world wars, we wouldn't be enjoying the freedoms that we do.
But thats not to take away the sacrifices of the wars since, those men and women should, and will be remembered in the sevices tomorrow.

As a post script on this,
The Forgotten Army.
256.000 Horses and Mules died on our side in the first war, Just our side.

Doc - that's the song I've been asking if someone could post on here! (I'm useless at links) It's so moving, isn't it? The other one that I've mentioned in other posts is Garth Brooks' "Belleau Wood" - if anyone can get that on here too, it just shows the irony of it all.
Those of you who posted the poems - they're all so true and so sad to wonder what it was all for....
Lonnie - have you seen the picure entitled, "Goodbye, Old Friend"? K xx
Lonnie: Good afternoon! Of course you may use it howsoever you wish.

Today, as we gathered, standing in silence, honouring those whose lives were cut short by the horrors of war, we found comfort and we found strength to meet the days ahead. And in our Remembrance, there arose the same plea, the same prayer, the same cry, that has gone before us for centuries: Please. Please. No more war.

Fr Bill
Read Spike Milligan poem "Soldiers at Lauro" about the futility of war and the deaths of his comrades. It says everything.

I find these sites sentimental.

Thanks Fr Bill,

Thats very good of you.
Unfortunately, because my wife is away, I'm looking after our Autistic daughter, so for the first time, I couldn't attend the service, but I did manage to catch most of the Cenotaph parade on the box.

God Bless You.
