Gerbil Problem

I had two gerbils that got on very well together. But a few days ago, one died. I know that gerbils like to live with others, not by themselves... but i dont know if i should buy another one, or another two, or just leave him all by himself. Can anyone help?

i had 2 gerbils and im not sure if you can introduce a new one or not but i know tthat when one in a pair dies it is quite normal for the other to die due to missing the other one. I would have thought if you gradually acclime the other one to it with a cage next to it to start it could be fine.
