i own a property that is in joint names with my ex husband. we divorced some years ago and he has given up all rights to the property in the divorce settlement. i have since remarried but have not changed my name on the mortgage nor removed my ex husbands name. i am currently considering selling the property and would appreciate some advice on the best action to take to remove his name and change my old name over to my new one. thankyou. h.

You have to change names both at the Land Registry and with the mortgagee. From recent correspondence with me on AB it appears that several mortgagee's now insist upon doing the Land Registry work as well as their own, for which a "re-registration fee" of around 200 + VAT is charged. So you must talk first to your mortgage company. Your ex will also have to sign a couple of form's, so hope he is still approachable!
