big blunder ford timing

Attempted to change water pump on 1.8lL Ford zetec ghia.Half way through decided to do timing belt,with out following the set procedures.How do you redo the timing from scratch.Not to many sarcastic comments please.Proper **** dos'nt do justice right now.any help greatly appreciated cheers

Whatever you do don't try and start the engine !

It is usually a complicated job to get the timing right and special locking tools are needed. you are keeping the year of your car secret so cannot give any advice.

Your best bet is to get a Haynes manual which could help.
I think you will find you need special locking tools for camshafts and crankshaft, the camshaft one is a flat bar if I remember right and the crankshaft one is a pin that goes into the side of the block and rests against one of the webs on crank. As toureman says try and get hold of a haynes manual, or you could join a ford forum and maybe find instructions on there.

Greetings after much huffing and puffing have mananged to sought it out.Dont ever attempt to do the timing belt with out following the Queensbury rules.Have never done this repair before so no thought went into at all.Thanks to those of you that replied.It's an N reg 96 model.Cheers
