Does the child have a passport? If not, you can apply for a restriction at the UK Passport Office to prevent one being issued with out your knowledge.Other than that, if your ex has residence they can basiclly do what they want. The only sure fire way to prevent it is to get a court order.
Is there any particular reason WHY you would want to stop your child from going on holiday with their other parent? I mean proper reasons such as the child's safety from an abuser ... not just cos you dont want the child to? I think if there is a residency order already in place you will find it danmed hard to stop the parent from taking THEIR child on holiday, andnif you do try to what is to stop them from making the same order against YOU? Think carefully about this ..... afterall, your child does have the right to have a holiday with BOTH parents.
Off the top of my head I think you'll find that any one with an RO can take the children out of the country without 'permission' from anyone for up to 4 weeks.

The simple answer to this is yes your ex can take your child on holiday without your consent:

- anywhere in the UK

- outside of the UK but only for a period of less than one month

If your ex wants to take your child on holiday abroad for more then one month then permission is needed from all who have parental responisibility (which you don't say whether you have).
