Mac are are probably the most compatible computers for cameras and cams. Take a look at the cams available through Apple and then you will know the best to buy.

iMovie (I assume you'll be using this) now supports DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD. The last format is perhaps the best.
