We hear a lot about Omega 3 (and other numbers) in food and drink. I was brought up in the days of Vitamins. 'Omegas' are relatively recent as far as I am concerned. Can someone please explain in simple terms what they are? Thank you.
Omega 3 comes from a family of fatty acids, found commonly in fish oils. They're reputedly good for you, not least because they help to prevent blood from clotting.
Thank you Ice-Maiden. I guessed they were something to do with fatty acids, 'though I'm not even sure what a fatty acid is. Anything 'fatty' or 'acid' doesn't sound too good to me! I understand there are other 'Omegas' 1, 2, etc. so will leave this question open for the time being.

Thanks for your advice. I've often heard about these things but not really understood them. Just hope my brain function improves as a result! Must now explore the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats.
