The man in question (Jon Ronson) wrote a book about this group, who were called the First Earth Battalion (you cannot make this stuff up). It's called The Men Who Stare at Goatsworth a read.

It could be worse. At least they're not stockpiling nuclear arms or threatening to go to war with Iran. Doh!
