I was convicted of a misdemeanor 10 years ago. My employer recently did a background check and this showed up. I called the Police Department, and they said they do not show that. The company said that if the court has done something with the record, the court needs to provide them with the papers. Does the court take the charge off after awhile? Why does the background show it but noe the P.D? What should I do now?

The charge was embezzlement under $100.00 and was commited in the usa.
arn,

No sure about usa law but uk courts do not remove convictions from peoples criminal records. They become spent after certain times but remain on record for ever. The police records in the uk are microfiled after 10 years and stored at scotland yard. But with computer records now it is easier to store and retreive electronically.

Maybe the legal eagles on here can help further.

good luck

I wouldn't worry petal, it sounds like the computers need updating that's all.
