You dont need Weight Watchers!! Again, losing weight is about willpower and keeping off the fatty foods. I am not naturally slim, I have to work really hard to keep my weight down but I manage it. I see people at work moan about their weight then stuff themselves with crisps and biscuits because 'they have eaten nothing all day" !! I bought myself an old rowing machine and went on it every day and the weight fell off. My partner treated me to a brand new one and then a gym membership to reward me for all my hard work. So I work an 8 hour day then go to the gym straight after work, it only takes an hour, I have cut it down to 3 times a week now and it is sufficient.

Ps if you cant afford to buy exercise equipment, try your local Freecycle group-

http://www.freecycle.org

I have seen treadmills, bikes, steppers all going for nothing.

Walking is also great exercise, and something the whole family can do together.

We need to stop being a nation of couch potatoes!!
You should stop thinking about 'diets', and just change your eating habits for life. Weight is irrelevant if you are unfit.
What you put in your own mouth is a personal thing, you shoulnt need someone to hold your hand or the embarrassment of having to stand on scales in front of folk making you crash diet. Again, it is a life long thing, do you need to be weighed in front of other people for the rest of your days? Weight watchers, slimming world etc want you to believe that so you can line their pockets. Go to your well woman clinic for some advice from your practice nurse, there may well be NHS support in your area but it wont be like weight watchers.
Invisible ...you can get help from the NHS for weight loss. All you have to do is see your GP and they will refer you to your practice nurse .Hopefully your surgery has one ! I managed to lose a lot of weight brought on by an underactive thyroid with this method .It's one to one .None of that "group therapy " which I hate where you are made to look a fool if you have gained an ounce in front of a crowd of strangers ..Most surgeries now have help for people to stop smoking too. After all it's in their own interests to keep us on the straight and narrow thereby avoiding costs to the NHS caused by our vices :)
If you pay into the pot you are entitled to have something back .

i have done rosemary conley classes like others on ab, and it works as its a good workout too. also do dvds and go for walks, its hard so people should not judge! i`m off now for a great big rum and coke hic hic hic. and when i come back later let stop judging fatties and smokers!!!
I did not know about your back injury so dont shout at me about it. I also mentioned the practice nurse if you care to look at my answer properly. I am speaking about people who have NO MEDICAL REASON to be overweight so dont get on your high horse and throw your back injury I DIDNT EVEN KNOW ABOUT into the equation!! PS try getting my user name right too, you are just being rude. PPS back injury does not necessary=overweight. You are 'very active' at work but cannot go for a walk in the evening??
Y'know if you lot still smoked you'd be a lot more chilled and laid back...

I'm kidding!!

Legs it off thread as firing line is a scary place

(Really was kidding, just trying to bring it back to original question).
Give it a go Invisible ....the thing with it is ....they are there to help you . Once you see them and they give you advice etc and ongoing appointments to see them again to monitor your weight etc you find the motivation to do it .This is how I felt anyway .I felt that they were there to help me in a professional capacity so I felt that I couldn't let them down. There were times when I put on a couple of pounds but if you get a sympathetic person trying to help you you don't feel so guilty and go away thinking ...yes . I will keep it up..
I had a lovely person who really encouraged me to do it .They are trained people who are there to help you ..not to make a profit out of you with their ready meals !
I posted my deliberately offensive post on purpose because I wanted to see how many people would have a pop - it never ceases to amaze me that smoking is a filthy self-inflicted dangerous habit and smokers deserve an incredible amount of unwarranted villification, whereas obese over-eaters always appear to be 'victims' warranting our support.

It is a massive double standard.

AOG - a small minority of people are obese for medical reasons and they deserve our support: the vast majority however are obese because they eat too much and exercise too little. Fact.
I think part of the reason for that flip_flop is because traditionally, smokers have been happy to force their habit on everyone else, which always seemed a bit unfriendly on their part, so It's hard to be sympathetic.
However I've never yet been attacked by a bunch of obese people who've pinned me to the ground and attempted to stuff big macs down my throat.
Still doesn't explain why over-eaters are always the 'victims' whereas smokers have nobody to blame but themselves though does it?
