Can anyone tell me if it is a law requirement to change a full uk paper driving licence to a photo one?

Not unless you need to send your licence off for any reason - change of address or points added, for example.

You cannot choose to keep your paper licence - the DVLA no longer issue paper licences.

But as the law stands at the moment, you are not obliged to change your paper licence for the photo one.
Be forwarned, however, should you wish to hire a car, you will no longer be able to do so without a photographic driving license, within the EU, effective the first of 2008.

That already applies in Canada, the states, and Switzerland.

Thanks to all whom replied to my question, and pleased to say now very clear on the position of my licence.
Once again thanks to all.
Fr Bill - I'd be interested in the source of your information about EU, etc driving. I've not seen it anywhere - yet - and would like to read the small print.
