I think a capon is a male chicken, bigger than your average chicken sometimes have it at christmas instead of turkey!
a capon is a chicken that has been given more food than normal to make them larger.
Hi angeldelight , it is a male chicken :-)
Hi puddicat , how are you ? Hope you are well :-) x
A capon is a male chicken that's been castrated, that's why it grows bigger. I believe caponising has been banned in the UK now for a few years, because of the way it was done, it was cruel.
Hi, puddicat! Where have you been? did you have a nice birthday, after all? Hope so.
Sorry, BOO, I should've looked at your link first - could've saved my breath! How the devil does anyone castrate a chicken, though? Micro-surgery??
my dad use to raise capon cockerels for the Christmas market some 40 yrs ago.i seem to remember a pellet being injected into its neck to caponise it over a period of time , presumably for its bits to drop off...........by the way they were very tasty
Can't say I've tasted a cockerel's bits myself. Oh well, it takes all sorts.
Eating a capon is disgusting! The birds are injected with hormones to make them grow large in a very short time. Think about what you're putting into your body.
A male chicken castrated when young to improve the quality of its flesh for food.
I agree Milk. The last time we had a capon it tasted better than any chicken or turkey. We were so disappointed when they were no longer available
