During a quiz night a multi choice question was - when was cigarette advertising banned on television - 1955,1965 and 1975. I opted for 1975 as I am sure I recall adverts in the late 1960s (e.g. Hamlet advert). The answer was given as 1965 - various websites also give this answer EXCEPT for the History Channel which gives 1975. Can anyone with 100% certainty confirm the correct year. Many thanks.

Can't confirm any dates , but I think Cigars and Pipe tobacco adverts were allowed after they banned cigarettes.
