I found out last week that im pregnant (after 4 home tests!!) I've booked an appointment to see my GP but was wondering what to expect?

Also the first day of my last period was Aug 27th so does that mean I'm classed as 5wks pregnant?

dont expect a great deal. Chances are you GP wont even test to see if you are pregnant.

They will make an appointment for you to see the midwife or for the midwife to contact you. This is usually at about the 8-10 week mark so you pretty much have nothing to do but wait.

Ask for some advice on what you can and cant eat and check that any medications you take are safe.

and your dates are calculated from the first day of last period so you are about 5 weeks, you will be given a more accurate date when you have your first scan.

congratulations
congratulations.

redcrx is right, they wont do anything. My GP didnt test me as the home kits are so accurate.... you cant have a false positive. They will arrange for you to see a midwife at 10 weeks and they will write to your local hospital to get you registered there.

Even when you see your midwife they dont do much. test a urine sample, blood pressure, general health questions and then they arrange a scan for you.

my only bit of advice for you is to take some suppliments such as sanatogen prenatal. I was so so tired in the first 14 weeks or so and felt quite ill and I found that they hepled a lot!! i found it very difficult to eat a balanced diet and they made sure I was getting everything I needed... especially folic acid

all the best
Hi K8, CONGRATULATIONS!! X

I am 14 weeks along and I visited my doc when I was 5 weeks after a positive pregnancy test (I only did one!), my GP didn't test me, she gave me an NHS pregnancy book and my blue notes. My midwife then called me to arrange an appt - so make sure the surgery has your up to date telephone numbers. I was 12 weeks when I had my midwife appt, but I think it depends on the availability in your area.

Whilst I was at my gp appt I had to make an appt with the nurse for my blood tests, I had that the following week. And in between the gp and midwife appt I received a letter from the hospital advising me of my 1st scan date.

Hope this helps x x
