If it was anyhitng like our old upright, the clunking was the vibration of the motor (I think that;s what it was, a big lumpy bit at teh bottom of the freezer at the back.) when it switched itself off. Heaven knows why it did it but it always did and always worked perfectly. Until it didn't. IYSWIM
i cannot answer why but my freezer which is about 6 years old started doing this about a year ago. Has not got any worse and as you say everything else is ok. I felt it was just getting a bit old so things not running quite so smoothly now.
