This problem must be sorted out. Two young ladies uncovered their breasts for the benefit of the CCTV camera. Was any complaint made by a member of the public? No! If they had been on the beach wearing only a miniscule g-string no action would have been taken. The Sexual Offences Act 2003 states that " A person commits an offence if he (does this apply to she?) intentionally exposes his genitals and intends that someone will see them and be caused alarm and distress."
I really don't know what our police are up to. An officer replied to this subject in Answer Bank months ago and he admitted they just don't know how to react sometimes. The public deserve to know what they can and cannot do in this matter. I hope somebody or some authority takes this matter in hand.

on Ibiza, of course not. But English girls are famed for their cleanliness. Policemen (and husbands) should just look away.

Thank goodness, sense has prevailed. The case against the two young ladies has been dropped. Will people who have this kind of power learn from this? I hope so. The police should review their priorities and use their manpower sensibly.
suckling young. so totally beautiful. So wonderful, if not the most exhilarating experience to witness, what is?

Go away sad people - bring on babies
I don't think the police can win. If they come down on low grade anti-social behaviour they are accused of being petty but then the nation is supposedly rife with anti social behaviour and people are asking what the police are doing about it.

Personally I don't mind that the girls flashed but it is anti social. Going topless on a beach is different as its acceptable for the surroundings. Breast feeding is a completely different ball game and is normally very discrete.

it seems to have been done solely for the benefit of the CCTV camera operator, and he then complained to the police. A slightly less than public nuisance, really.

ooh....grrrr...but noone would object to woman pulling out a plastic bottle, with a rubber teat and feeding their baby cows milk, fish heads and chemicals cos thats natural. After a baby has latched on how much breast do you actually see? Sorry Hugh drives me nuts.... I once got told to fed my son in the toilets, whilst I had a shawl draped over him, I nearly told him to c0ck off but I restrained and told him to drink his coffee in the bogs.

Its all about propriety I think. Breasts beaches is kind of normal. Maybe designated family beaches where it doesn't happen would be ok. Flashing at CCTV deserves no more than a ticking off. Its all about circumstances and I'm afraid that 99% of women don't want you gawping at them whilst they breastfeed but sometimes in public the quickest way to get the baby latched on is to expose all, only one pair of hands and all that.
get 'em out fer the lads, fnarr fnarr.

Sorry, I've been up all night.
Breastfeeding in public, if discreetly done, is one thing. Baring breasts in order to tease is quite another. The breasts are a sexual part, and to expose a sexual part is to invite trouble. There is nothing offensive about the sight of a breast, but there is plenty offensive about flashing your bits in order to tease, show off, flaunt sex or upset people.

we girls are forced to see mens breasts, yuk.
why can we not see girls breasts?
cos of men being in control u r ********
Breasts serve no part sexually. Breasts are for breastfeeding.
the breasts, as gs says have no sexual function, other than men like them - some men like feet, elbows, fingers, ears... etc etc

and breast feeding women look unclean!!??
just because are not afraid to do what nature intended and refuse to be bullied by uptight, squeamish buffoons??
what a riduclously stupid thing to say!
These latest opinions mirror what I originally wrote some 50 responses ago - breasts are not genitalia possessing the erectile tissue that exists in places such as the corpora cavernosa of the penis and in the clitoris. The erection of nipples is not due to erectile tissue, but due to the contraction of smooth muscle under the control of the autonomic nervous system, stimulated for latching on to breast feed. (I'm not claiming that erectile tissue is necessarily a sexual attribute, by the way, because it is also found in the nose and in the ear, and we're not normally forced to cover those bodily protrusions up unless it's very cold).
It's our society's crude sexualisation of the breasts that fostered the display that got these 2 silly young ladies into trouble in the first place, along with the antiquated views of the authorities who tend to overreact when uncertain about what to do "for the sake of decency."

I still can't believe how many people get upset about boobs! They're just breasts, nearly every woman has them, I can't see how they are offensive, anti-social or disgusting in anyway!
I've never understood why it should be illegal for anyone, male or female, to be totally naked anywhere (whether that be on the beach, in the street or shopping in Tesco). We need laws to protect people from physical or emotional harm but prohibiting some forms of behaviour just because other might not like it is an infringement of basic liberties.

As far as the breast-feeding issue goes, it seems that the politicians are finally displaying some common sense:

Hopefully, they'll soon allow us all the freedom to display our bodies, whenever and wherever we like.

I'm 100% with whippetycross on this. I propose we start a revelution whereby all women get their own back on us men by taking their tops off and letting it all hang out.

That'll teach us, and we deserve it.
Why is baring breasts on a beach regarded as "acceptable for the surroundings"?

Where else is similarly acceptable?

A park on a sunny day?

Round the hotel swimming pool?

No.

Why not?

Why just on the beach?

I have to say, Police only have to use their common sense. For example, a man exposing himself in order to cause distress desrves a telling off, but a man being stripped for his stag party and made to stand naked in front of the public on anight out can be looked at differently. Swings and rounderbouts!!!!

I do think that women are able to get away with more than men, but thats life!!!!

I think in this world we need a bit more of a sense of humor when appropriate!
